The main reason I ask is because she has no status and I want to be able to pick Medallion-only seats for us (plus request upgrades, of course).
I did not 100% know the answer for this so I called the medallion line. Here is the dirt.
1) it is EZ to split a reservation we know
2) Delta CAN NOT under any situation put them back into one
3) Airport rules are different from phone rules
Now you can call and ask to be in the same row even exit and a nice rep will do it for you but if not call back until you get a nice rep that will!
Next, what you do is this. When you get to the airport go to the check-in desk. Tell them you got split, or what ever the situation may be, and want all to be on the upgrade list under your status. If they say no go - ask for Red Coat or call medallion line and hand the phone to the rep.
Again, no way to run an airline but you may not fly Delta unless you know the ever changing rules!
