BA & Iberia - different record locator?

I made a booking on AA.com for a trip with 4 segments, 2 of them BA, 2 of them Iberia. AA supplied me the Amadeus record locator which shows the 2 flights on BA but doesn't show me the 2 flights on Iberia.
BA.com & Iberia.com both show the same 2 flights (2 BA flights) when you look up the reservation on their site.

An explanation I received from AA about this "issue":
Please note that Iberia does not use record locators for their codeshare
flights. Iberia can only view a customer itinerary using the ticket
number. You will not be able to obtain a seat assignment in advance
with Iberia. Again, you may request a seat assignment at the airport on
the day of your departure.
I called Iberia and spoke with one of their representatives but even with the e-ticket number or with Flightnr, Date & Lastname Iberia doesn't manage to retrieve my reservation.

I found out in this thread that AA should be able to reserve seats on this flight so I will move on and do this but this situation makes me feel a bit uncomfortable about the reservation.

What is going on? Did anybody have this before? Is it possible or is Iberia just messing up?
