Just remembered the other compelling reason to avoid using DL miles... the new 72 hour rule. In its infinite wisdom, DL recently changed policy to prohibit changes or mileage redeposits within 72 hours of the original departure.
It's use it or lose it once you are within the T-72 window. Go with AA.
