I think the Green card still exists, but only in the form of the Euro or Dollar International Charge Card - http://www.americanexpress.com/lacid...en_apply.shtml

Cost is $/€100 per year, so if you went with the dollar one it'd be around £63 per year cost, around half of the cost of the Gold card. Presumably though you'll incur Forex charges when buying things in £ on it though...

Plat - certainly lots more benefits for the money, the question is whether (especially with the reduced insurance benefit) this still works out for you. Have you looked at this thread? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...questions.html and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...-uk-vs-us.html - they recap some of the benefits that might help you make a judgement.

I think if you applied afresh for the Plat card (rather than calling them and asking to upgrade) and met the initial spend requirement you would get the bonus points (I certainly did when applying for the SPG card despite having a Plat) - however not sure if anyone else has had first-hand experience of doing this??
