Nonetheless, the wide bodies are still running between IAH-EWR (although I'm not sure how frequently), which should still give excellent upgrade chances for the OP. Checked my flight scheduled for for Jan 5 and it's on a 764 (Typical config with 35 BF seats).

Indeed. And with the 752s in the afternoon, the OP also had a good chance
at flatbeds for the hub-to-hub service if there's flexibility in his schedule.
