It should be 30K plus 32.5K. It sounds like the agent got that wrong. And with two separate awards, you'd also be entitled to a stopover in LIM, if desired.
Although there are several exceptions, as a general rule AA does not permit a transit via a third zone on an award from one zone to another. NA to SA2 does not permit a SA1 transit. The only exception to this is a through LAN flight (single flight number) from NA to SA2 that happens to make an intermediate stop in SA1.

Will look for those LAN flights with same flight#, if I cannot get a direct flight (as I am not interested in stopover)
This makes the old BA 40K J award NA to SA even a better deal - too bad I couldn't take advantage of it as it is for Dec '12
