Seatbelt extension policy
Happy early New Year, FTers! I had an odd encounter while flying back to GEG yesterday that I was hoping someone could shed some light on:
I flew my awesomely-routed flight yesterday (GSO-ATL-STL-SLC-GEG...you may remember my beef over the first-class upgrade with miles SNAFU that they corrected from a few weeks ago) and was in FC the whole way. A few years ago, I purchased a seatbelt extension so I didn't have to ask one everytime I flew. Given the larger seats in FC combined with weight loss, I typically don't need it depending on the plane. One one of the planes yesterday, however, I did. So I snapped it on and was ready to go.
A short time before we were to leave, the FA walks up and starts talking to me. It took me a minute to realize she had an extension in hand and was trying to hand it to me. She said that I had to wear that one because it matched their seat belts (mine was black). At the end of the flight, she told me to keep it so I could use it on other DL flights.
While not as seasoned a flyer as most of the folks on this board, I've probably worn that belt a good 75 times or so in the last few years on Delta and Alaska flights without any complaints. I'm curious as to why this person decided I couldn't wear it. While I certainly appreciate having one now that blends in better (though I hope to not have to use it much longer), that seems like an odd thing to address. Besides, the companies that sell these things sell them by buckle type, not by seat belt color.
Has anyone had an experience remotely close to this, or was the FA just being weird? Thanks!
