Back from my trip and wanted to share a bit of informations about the 10 ride PATH card. This option is available only if you purchase a Smart Card, which is not sold in the Newport station and costs $5. So this bargain appears to be geared to regular transit riders as opposed to tourists.

Courtyard was a great place to stay with regard to PATH. About a 30 second walk from the entrance to the station. And late at night we really appreciated the more direct routing. Thanks for the advice everyone!
