When they built the new airport at BLR for some odd reason they installed an ILS with a glide slope too steep for most aircraft to autoland on. This means the minimum we can fly down to is 200ft odd above the airfield with 1/2km visibility required. Given the frequent bouts of foggy days it causes many diversions.
I dont know why the ILS is set up like it is as the other less reliable approach procedures have shallower angles of descent. Fog was always a problem at the old airport but the runway there was too sloping for autolands. Devanahalli is flat and there isnt much higher terrain around so I don't understand why a standard system wasn't installed.
If the airport authorities installed a Cat3 ILS BLR would rarely see disruption. The visibility in my experience never drops that far.
