Doesn't sound like a big deal to me at all. Who cares if a lot of pre-boards? Let them board if they want. And who cares about the dumb dog? Just ignore it. You got to your destination. And during Christmas travel. Sorry the airline can't personally cater to you. Maybe try private jet next time?
