The alternative is to get a (large) suit carrier, then the dress can hang up in the wardrobe during the flight. I'd recommend you keep the rest of your hand luggage at a minimum, as then you won't seem to take the Michael so to speak.

Do not, under any circumstances, look in the box/ suit carrier. Your life won't be worth living
