CP Cambridge (UK)
I couldn't find much recent on this hotel, so thought I would post a brief report of my recent stay.
I had a 6 night stay last week. Arrived mid-evening, and was told I had been upgraded to 'king executive' room: not sure what the difference was between that and a standard room, other than possible bathrobe. There were a couple of small chocolates on the bed, and a couple of bottles of complimentary water.
Major irk with PC is lack of free internet for elites, and the price here was GBP15/24 hrs. I managed a work-around, but I wish PC would catch up with HH etc on this one.
The stay was fairly unremarkable. The one very minor matter that was irksome was that despite getting a turndown service every evening: no more chocolates. Now, I didn't actually like the chocolates that much, and had they not been there, I wouldn't think I'm missing out. But just putting them out for one night only just reminds one that it's not happening every night!
The staff were friendly, but I was in Cambridge for work, and didn't really need their assistance with anything. In terms of the room: it was small-ish but not tiny. The bathroom was fine, if rather dated. Shower over tub arrangement, with a decent pressure from the shower head.
Cambridge is not known for its quality hotels. There are few city centre 'loyalty brand' options for the point earners out there. The price was reasonable, and on a par with other options. The best thing about the hotel is the location. It is right in the centre of town. I needed to get the bus several days on my trip, and it is <5 minute walk to the central bus stops. It's also very close to most of the Colleges, the main shopping centre (grand arcade) is next to the hotel.
Overall, an uneventful stay, which is a good thing. Ideal location for tourists not coming with a car. Car parking charges are fairly steep if one is coming by car, but parking in cambridge is a nightmare for the casual visitor anyway.
