Looking at the new MP for 2012, unless you are one of the few who can't travel with just a carry-on or maybe one-checked bag or are tall and need E+ (and don't want to pay for it), Gold won't get you much.

Especially with the new program, Gold and even 1K won't help much with an UG because priority goes to fare bucket. So Silver traveling in Y beats 1K traveling in M (or below).

You really need to look at what you want out of your travel and determine whether $1,000 and 2-3 days of work are worth it.

For me, the 3 biggest benefits would be the international lounge access, E+ and the occasional upgrade. I travel international quite a bit and the lounge and E+ seats on those long hauls really do make a difference. You are correct though, it is $1000 and 3 days of "work". *Sigh* Decisions, decisions...
