Non driven shuttle hotels are the Sheraton, which is part of Terminal 2, and the Hilton, Ibis and Novotel, all 3 of which are in a cluster near the Roissypole RER station. These 3 are close to one another and you can stay at one and walk over to eat at another, even in bad weather. The Roissypole station also has the CDG Val electric shuttle trains, which wisk you to either terminal 1 or 2 in about 10 minutes. Easy, no risk and free.

The Hilton is a nice facility with a great spa and pool. They charge for wifi and the food buffets were really expensive when I was there last. At $130, it is a pretty good deal-I'd take that, go early to use the spa, and eat either at the Ibis or Novotel.

The Ibis is the low end of the Accor chain. It's new, clean, small but efficient rooms with everything you need, including free wifi. There are a couple of places to eat, pretty basic stuff but ok.

The Novotel is a higher end of the Accor chain. I haven't stayed there but I did eat there, and the restaurant is not as high end as I expected and not nearly as wildly priced as the Hilton. There's also a restaurant that's part of the station, which I want to check out next time I'm out there. The Novotel is labeled "convention and wellness", and I think they have a spa and the hotel gets very good reviews.

CAVEAT: Be sure you are looking at the Ibis and Novotels at Roissypole as there are other Ibis and Novotel hotels at CDG and it is easy to mix them up. Getting one of those other ones will throw you back into the driven shuttle game, and sadly, Accor gets some pretty poor reviews for their driven shuttles at CDG.
Thanks for this! I would have counted on the shuttle and I'm glad to have your experience so I avoid it. I will focus on Westin, Hilton, Ibis or Novotel (roissypole).

Stimpy, thanks for the suggestion - I will call SPG and see about points and cash option! Would love the convenience of the Westin.
