I'm not sure how much business they're losing if you only earned 40K (unless you've been totally unaware of any promos, perhaps). Lots of people earn 60K on less than 10 stays. In fact, some people earn 60K with no paid stays (they might care about Platinum because they plan paid stays in the future, or because they have plenty of points from previous years and will only do award stays for a while).

Furthermore, no hotel program can see whether you're moving your business away. They can't tell the difference between that and your travel patterns changing. All they can tell is whether your stay patterns change, but they cannot tell the reason for that.

So your only option for them to figure it out is to "threaten" to move your business away. (And now who's not being nice?)
