I fly Saturday and will report back...
I flew PHX-BOS on Thursday and BOS-PHX on Sunday. PHX-BOS, the agent did exactly as they were supposed to do:
quietly took a passenger in a wheelchair down (no announcement), followed by Military, F, Zone 1 (then I was on board and didn't hear the rest). You could tell she was reading the announcements on the screen, so I'm confident she hit the families after zone 2, based on watching families boarding shortly after I was seated.

BOS-PHX, there was a discrepancy:
About 5 min before boarding, GA made announcement that families would board after zone 2, but didn't silently pre-board person in wheelchair (who was directly in front of the gate podium). Called Military first (none). When she called F, the person in the wheelchair was wheeled down (by skycap person) at the same time as F, so it was a little odd as it did disrupt the F boarding (the person in wheelchair was in coach). I boarded with F so I didn't hear the rest.

I like the silent pre-boarding of known customers who need assistance. I think it makes it easier for everyone. And getting F boarded before families will certainly help the likelihood of Pre-Departure Beverages (which I received on both flights), since the F folks tend to get settled quickly.
