I don't check bags often but as SkyPriority my bag is one of the first on the carousel. DTW yields bags pretty consistently in 18-25 minutes after the first passenger steps off the plane. Fifty minutes is an outlier - and not acceptable to me for any domestic arrival. .
The best I've done at DTW is for the bags to come up 10-15 minutes after we get to luggage claim -- but that can take 10-15 minutes. 30 minutes to an hour isn't unusual.
One problem at DTW is they can change where it comes up on short notice.
By comparison, at FTN we can check luggage, park at the economy lot and be on US23 (with our luggage) a grand total of 15 minutes after the plane gets to the gate.
