Indeed... Common throughout the industry. At BA, we can buy Y and J ID90 tickets and that is after 6 months working for the company.

Frequently, passengers make comment on "free" travel, but when I explain that it is not "free", and also the process of how it works, and that travelling LHR-SYD on a jump seat really is not as delightful as it may sound, as well as being unloaded 45 minutes before departure, having to try and get through security and often run to the gate to make your flight... Not pleasant. Hence why I don't use it often at all.

Yes, there are times when it can work well and you end up in a J or F seat because it is the only available seat, and the BA policy is to not upgrade commercial to put staff in the cabin of entitlement, sometimes, that seat does not have any power, or will not recline. The IFE does not work and there is no food for you... So, really not as great as it sounds.
