Well, one data point - the wi-fi checker was completely useless today, it reported my flight as N/A, and there turns out to be wi-fi! Interestingly enough, there isn't a big Wi-Fi logo in the front of the plane as you enter, but small wi-fi tags under the overhead bins indicating wi-fi.

I guess a false negative is better than a false positive.
