I just stayed in Railay Beach, and it still has a little of the atmosphere to which you refer. (
Job2Do at Yaya Bar, 50m from our room in East Railay, our last night there, not my video.)
West Railay is more upscale, and even more scenic, and there are some very nice properties like
Rayavadee. The more concentrated hippy scene is in Ton Sai beach, a short boat ride from West Railay.
I did some diving from there, but it was a longtail out to the dive boat, which then traveled back to Phi Phi area for the dives. There is rock climbing for those so inclined. There is kayaking. And there's just lounging, enjoying the warm water and some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere.
