Call, do not write, customer relations TODAY - so they have access to the priority list for AA 540. They will see that an RV1 (EXP going standby) would have cleared the flight. An RV2 and RV3 did get standby along with four RLs - flat tire rule passengers. An RV1 would have trumped all of them (taking one of the seats from the four RLs).
