On a KL flight a few years ago, the cabin crew enlisted the help of one of the pilots to solve a similar problem. He simply pulled a fuse somewhere, thus ensuring that none of the reading lights in the entire J cabin worked anymore.
That would have made raph happy, but the pax who wanted to read were not that pleased.
