Not aware of anyone requiring two double-sided pages, or anything more than two adjacent pages. Indeed, the Australian agent stamped a previously-used page last time I entered. Not aware of any issues with the US (but make sure you have your ESTA). South Africa does require two blank pages, and enforces it, so ask anyone stamping your passport in the interim to leave those pages blank.
