Yep, worth waiting i'd say. You don't say what class you intend to fly, but i'd suggest signing up for newsletters with a bunch of airlines you'd be interested in using. Qantas sent me an offer for this Christmas (J class) just a few days ago, and people like Qatar keep pumping out discounts every couple of weeks too.

Years back someone had a system that plotted historical airfares by route so you could try and judge when the best time to book was.
