Just an FYI,
Depending on the time of your travel, you would have been able to travel from St. Louis to NYC, then make one connection in NYC to BOS. Also, if Greyhound oversells capacity on a schedule, additional sections are generally added to that schedule whenever needed.
How did I know that?

Had this been in the early part of the 90's, when Greyhound tried to operate a reservation-based, airline-style hub-and-spoke system, then you would have had multiple connections, and therefore, multiple problems.
