An interesting tale...
Arrived in ORD Monday. Spent the day sight-seeing with a friend.
Tuesday AM. Boarded plane, everything normal (or so I thought). We taxi for takeoff, then return to terminal. We are told airport is closing and to "get away from ORD as fast as you can".
I have to be in STL for a customer installation, so I high-tail it to Hertz. Why Hertz? Because I have to pick up my priceline rental in STL from Hertz.
By the time I get my car, the line at Hertz is over 100 people deep. I shout out, "Anybody need a lift to STL?" Someone volunteers. He lives in Houston and figures he's gonna end up driving, so we're heading in the right direction.
We get our car and spend the next 5 1/5 hours talking about it. Absolutely surreal. We had seen NO footage at this point.
We arrive in STL - the airport is a ghost town. I go pick up my car. There are NO cars for him to rent, so he re-rents the car we drove from ORD.
I started having concerns on how I was getting home. I called Amtrak - no dice. I thought about greyhound, but realized that there was a big risk with so many connections on buses.
So now I'm driving. I am currently sitting in a Hampton Inn in Troy, OH. I wake up in 5 hours to drive home to my family.
Not the greatest solution, but a working one. I hope things work out no worse for others.
