It ultimately boils down to GA laziness. They are supposed to call differentiated groups, separately, but in most of my flights this fall they just wait a few seconds before calling the next group. Add to that the fact that most of the GAs don't boot out the non-elites, and then everyone just says F it and tries to board. It's frustrating to say the least.
