I don't know that there is a hard/fast rule, and of course YMMV, but I've read on FT that 6 months is a good rule of thumb. Absolutely no hard data to prove it though. What you need to think about is are you willing to possibly have them yank back the MQMs and miles they gave you for the upgrade?

I had mine for 14 months before just downgrading to DL Plat today. Since I made DM, I have no need for the free SC but wanted to make sure I used my Companion ticket and got my MQM bonus before doing that.
