I've stayed here and I've also been to conventions here.
The weird scale of stuff in the public spaces makes me feel like I'm in some weird scene in Alice in Wonderland.
The lobby bar is nice but extremely noisy.
In the winter, I like that the ice skating is so nearby.
I like that there are plenty of non-Fairmont food options in walking distance and it's so close to public transit (the light rail system).
I haven't stayed in a room in a few years, but I've been to other people's for various conventions, and they seemed okay. One thing I note is that this property is known (and has been for ten years) for overcharging convention guests who may have thrown a party, even if it was sanctioned. They have charged "cleaning fees" for "parties" that never existed as well. Consequently, this is the only Fairmont I've been to where I wouldn't stay again.
