If DFW is your final destination of travel on that day, then just show up early and go to the gate of any flight you want. The GA will put you on the standby list according to status and if there is room available you will get on. I do this almost everymonth if my plans change. Almost always can get a seat, I usually ask for first and can get it about 50% of the time.

This sounds promising. Actually... SAN-LAX-AUS-DFW wasn't pricing very well either... so I ended up with SAN-ORD-TUL-DFW. I'll try for standby.
No... this wasn't a mileage run!!! I swear!!! Just an avoidance of a $900+ fare (no Saturday night stay)!!! I know that seems hard to believe, especially on these boards.
I'm going to try my hardest. If I get lucky I may be able to get in before 3pm. Let's pray AA is in a good mood on the 21st!
