I doubt the veracity of this statement. There's no way the airlines would get away with carrying live animals at those temperatures and they do it all the time.
When we lived in Melbourne Australia we used to travel with Qantas on either 767 or A330 mel/syd return frequently with our lhasa aphso which used to travel in the luggage compartment in his dog cage so i would say they are heated.
