what Bob writes, I see "We have always been at war with Eastasia". I don't think he cares if it's true, consistent or plausible; he just bangs away at the keyboard.
Sadly, too many people have very short memories and poor reading comprehension, and will believe anything coming from the gov't. Especially if it sounds reassuring. Bob's underlying message is that the women reporting strip searches are hysterical old biddies and nothing like this could happen to YOU.
