Gosh if they're going to be that blunt about it not being a restaurant I wish they'd be at least as blunt about it not being a hotel when people are laying (lying?) across the furniture sleeping.

In answer to your question, I can't imagine how that sort of comment to a customer is appropriate unless the customer has done or said something rude -- which I can't imagine you doing based on your posts. You might sing them a Broadway show tune but you wouldn't be rude. "Food glorious food, hot sausage and mustard..."

Maybe you just caught someone having a bad day?
