I think this rather misses the point .....

My objection is to a combo of the nanny state and the insurportable accumulation of minor, relatively petty and largely inconsistent rules that are introduced but never reviewed.

Were we all not told a year or so ago that the liquids ban was on the way out because it no longer served a useful purpose? What happened to that? Forgotten ..... Why no liquids rule at TLV, where security should be at the very highest ?

A colleague whose carry on luggage had passed through LHR security unremarked on yesterday, had to empty it all out when connecting in the US, as there were some fixings in a swimsuit which were suspected to be bullets by the TSA team when it went through their scanner !

I think that the bottom line is that the inconsistencies inspire no confidence at all that those who make the rules actually have any idea what they are doing. Presumably the FAA has some extremely convincing research which shows that phones on the ground do not pose any risk.

The question which I would like answered is whether the CAA has got inconistent research, or has actually just never bothered to review the issue in light of whatever research the FAA has ?
