UA and CO can do the FID system because in the USA, the airline installs, maintains, and owns the gate equipment. In Canada and everywhere else, the airport authority owns all the equipment and AC has an internet connection on the computer screen.

The airport authority would have purchase software for the FID screen to display a stby list or u/g list. As well, AC would have to configure checkin software/program to provide this information over a public network that is accessible to the airport authority.
