I dont think there will be much availability for you to MFU in peak season and with the Olympics but one never knows. Good luck!
We usually fly LHR-YYZ on sunday afternoon to max the time in UK and still get back to work Monday am. Have found MFU ( avios upgrade now I guess) on about half the flights come up, get upgraded about half the remaining times at OLCI or at the gate and to be honest on a LHR-YYZ flight WT+ is really not bad. We bring food so not an issue trips are not in summer and we've been lucky with MFU close to the departure especially on the 747 this last season
