A few years ago, hubby and I were laid off (from different companies) one day apart. I'd already booked us an award weekend at the Embassy Suites near Monterey, so we got to leave earlier than we'd planned.

It wasn't a big deal points-wise as I was saving points for Hawaii, but it was sure a very needed morale booster when we'd taken a double whammy. (We're now both making more money at other companies and were only unemployed for about 3 months each, so it's all good.)
