That's what I just found out a couple of days ago. Was trying to book business class trip. For a UA flight where they have 2-class config (first or econ), the AE rep said they cannot give me the F seats as that would require First class award redemption, and can only give me econ. Even though there are econ plus seats available, they also cannot give me econ plus seats. Nor can I get econ seats closer to the front as those are preferred seats for the SE members.
So beware. When you are redeeming for business class ticket, for UA you won't get their domestic F seats but econ seats. An important AE enhancement.
