When I lived in the Northeast and flying USAir, at wheels up it seemed like everyone reclined their seats. After moving to Texas and flying AUS-DAL-HOU-AUS a bunch I noticed that almost no one reclined their seats, even at 6am. On the early flights and the 5-6pm flights, most pax were bankers, attorneys, lobbyists, etc. Anyway, there seemed to be a culture of respect and courtesy.
My friends who are pilots will always look behind before reclining and will do it gently as opposed to the jerk in front of you that slams his/her seat back.
Of course at Spirit the seats are pre-reclined.
