It seems for my time period at the end of October 2012, that there are only 60,000 mile awards available. What are my options?

I could book the 60,000 mile award, but I only have 80,000 miles left and would have to purchase miles. That seems cheaper than buying a one way ticket for 2 people. Should i wait to see if they open milesaaver awards for 20,000? Will they even offer the 20,000 awards later on? If I book the 60,000 award now, and a 20,000 becomes available, can I change it? Any help is appreciated.
Your flight info is confusing.
It sounds like you have JFK-HNL and HNL-JFK-BCN, and are looking for BCN-JFK. Is this correct? And, you want 20K award from BCN-JFK (offpeak) and it isn't available. IMHO, they might decide to drop the offpeak award. It is a bit too early for milesaver awards for next October. Sure, it is under 331 days, but not all seats are available that far out. Often, they don't put any mileage saver seats for a flight that far out.
If you book the 60K award, you have to pay the reinstatement fee ($150 for 1) to change to the 20K award, unless you are EXP. So, as an EXP, that would be a no brainer. If not, then you have decided to risk paying the fee. Did you check for 50K business class awards? You could also check on partner awards. These do not show up online.
