smoking policy at booking engines?

Almost , if not all, of the major booking engines are totally silent on the ability to book smoking rooms.

Orbitz, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc. It is only possible to book a room, not what one wants. Who knows what you are getting re smoking rooms. Will a n/s get a smoking room or will a smoker be stuck in a n/s room? Frankly all are useless for booking a smoking room so I avoid these sites.

This needs to be rectified (some 19% of Americans still smoke) and please no peanut comments on giving up! Save the lectures.

The only way I know of is booking with chains that actually still permit this indulgence. Some Hiltons, IC, HIs etc.
