As a point of curiousity, before you buy with an airline you’ve never flown before, do you always read the Conditions of Carriage? I don’t, and have typically assumed that there isn’t great variety among them. I’m now having an issue with an airline and taking a closer look, I see more variety than I anticipate (and I’m SO GLAD I bought w/ the airline that I did, as the terms are more favorable to me).

The airline I bought w/ cancelled a segment of my itinerary. After a very long time on the phone, they’ve agreed to switch me to another carrier on a flight for which I’ve been “confirmed” by both the original airline and the second (according to a separate call I made to the second airline). Now, supposedly all that I’m waiting for is the ticket to be re-issued. How long could that possibly take?!?

I have been negotiating with the original airline for several days now - for high season holiday travel which is approximately two weeks away, to a very far destination - and I was expecting this particular re-issue yesterday. When it didn’t come, I called the original airline and was told the case had been “reported” to “supervisors” who would call the ticketing office right away to instruct them to re-issue the ticket “as soon as possible”. I indicated that I would expect to receive it today (and if I didn’t, I would call tomorrow a.m. and ask to speak with the “supervisors” directly, or the Legal department), and the agent said he hoped that I would receive the re-issue this afternoon and re-iterated that the supervisors were expediting and that I should hear back soon.

With all the advanced systems these companies use (over the different phone calls, I saw changes being made to my record - as shown on the customer facing database on the airline’s website - on a minute by minute basis), why should this take so long, especially since the second airline reported to me that they have me confirmed and there is no hold up on their end for the reissue?

Any advice on what I can expect in terms of timing or potential issues that one can suspect when a reissue takes longer than a couple of hours?!? If this isn’t resolved as I’ve discussed w/ the airline, I fear my entire holiday trip will be cancelled, and I won’t bore you with why that will be a complete tragedy for me…

MANY THANKS for reading along and any responses!
What are the details. Original carrier, reroute carrier, from/to, is this domestic USA, intl., is there a travel agent. Get us the exact details and you can get some helpful answers. Without the details, it's speculation.

But, remember, the ticket evidences payment. If you don't have a ticket from your new carrier, the most likely reason is that it hasn't been paid for yet. Anybody can have a confirmed seat, but you don't get on the aircraft with just a confirmation.
