Usually they call in another car from the next closest location. I've had to wait a few minutes for them to get it, but usually they throw in a bunch of junk. Not much in the way of "next closest locations." The Hertz downtown is tiny; their entire fleet (much less just their unused cars) wouldn't make a dent in the airport's availability. Other than that, Fairbanks is 360 miles and six hours away. (Seward [120 miles away] and Homer [220 miles away] are independent licensees.)
