I donated 22,000 miles a few years ago, and they were deducted three times, which resulted in a balance of minus 43,000 miles, or so. I didn't really care, since I wasn't going to use me FB account anymore. But then I got a status match, and have flown AF a few times since. My account is still in heavy minus, but I have no intention of using Skyteam very much in the future, so I still don't care. I just hope the charity received the 3x miles.
