AA has the most service out of DFW. You can also go for a GLD/PLT challenge in order to get elite status quicker. I got the CO Silver trial in the mail too, but I didn't bother to take it. Don't know how they got my address either?
The cool thing about CO is that the upgrades are free, plus you can get them on NW and HP. But, then on a narrowbody you'll feel kind of cramped which you're probably used to on AS.
My previous company used AA as its preferred carrier. Let's just say starting from mile 0 and building status was tough before More Room Throughout Coach. But there are points sometimes when I won't upgrade like on those west coast routes that you mentioned.
AA will give you 4 500 mile upgrades for every 10,000 miles flown. You can use them on domestic flights only. They're pretty easy to get as a PLT (50,000 miles/Q-points). GLD (25,000 miles/Q-points) is when you have to fight more and hope an EXP(100,000 miles/Q-points) doesn't choose to get on last minute.
Let's just say when I became an EXP it was like being in heaven. Kind of like that "The Wing or God's Finger" thread in Trip Reports. I thought I was treated pretty well as a PLT, but as an EXP it's like night and day. The best part of it is the EXP desk. Everytime I've called, I've never had to hold. Plus, the people treat you with respect and really care.
Oh yeah, the VIP2 and VIPOW systemwide upgrades are great. You can buy the cheapest ticket to anywhere AA flies and get upgraded.
Let me stop, I can go on and on about how great AA is.
Oh, yeah did I mention that they fly three class aircraft for 2 class service also.
