I'm actually confused on why that would be a "waste of paper" if the second page is bank? Can't you just place the second page back into the paper feeder tray? Or surely, you can use it again for other means?
I hope its not that difficult/time consuming to go to select Print Current Page or Page 1 on the menu but perhaps your printer has more functionality than mine.
If this is printer belongs to you: you can select double-sided/duplex printing as default to save on paper if that is what concerns you.
