Yep, I know that border crossing. It was rarely manned, if ever. Not that we had any problems entering Switzerland but it was a useful option. The other way I regularly used to take from the Portes du Soleil was via Thonon, on the D1005 from Douvaine, and drive to the airport via the lake. That border was more often manned than not, but since it wasn't sitting on a motorway there was no vignette check.
The border on the A41 / A1 motorway into Geneva is probably the fastest and simplest if you have a vignette, but also the most likely to result in a lengthy passport check.
