The French cars do not come with snow tyres or chains, but in ten years of driving to Courchevel from Geneva once a year I've never needed them. (once was a bit hairy following the snow plough to 1850)
If conditions do look bad you can buy chains at a hypermarket cheaper than renting from the car hire firm.
