It is very straightforward to move between French and Swiss side, even more so now that Switzerland is in Schengen. I have done exactly the same thing for the same reasons and it was no problem whatsoever.
Just to clarify, you do need to walk to the Swiss side landside (just follow the signs). You cannot go from French to Swiss side airside. Only flights to/from France leave from the French side.
