The only part of your experience that is really different from mine is the change. I suggest you might have just been very lucky originally? I've always had a mix of 'what I would choose myself' and rubbish seats from the start. Every single one of Creber's 'common sense' rules of good seating has been breached by auto check in in my case except the middle seat one. I really dislike this system still.
